LAUAN603 - Research - Live Briefs

I have decided on the most time efficient 4 live briefs form the research below:

1.) 11 Second Club

These short animations are perfect for portfolio/showreel Building and also classes as a Live Brief:

2.) Loop De Loop: February bi-Monthly

Another opportunity to flesh out my portfolio/showreel:

I am coming up with ideas for this PIG theme for a short looping animation, this theme is obviously based form the Chinese New Year, year of the PIG.

(These 2 Live briefs that I have stated are highly likely to be completed, the remaining 2 live brief options may vary as to what I can do for workload and timing, comparing each option from below with the pros and cons with workload and timing)

3.) Character Design Quarterly - Character Design Challenge!

Designing a simple character design for each months theme, this months theme is 'Cavemen'.

(These remaining briefs are all options for the final brief, I am prioritising the Brown Bag Films as work experience for PP but that might not be happen, so in that case these briefs would have more time)

Work Experience - Brown Bags

Brown Bag Films, or Brown Bag, is a Canadian-owned Irish television animation production studio which offer work experiences for a week and do not have any scheduled deadlines or application limits.

This should constitute as a Live Brief because one of my peers is currently partaking in the work experience and producing work, as well as meeting and networking with professionals.

This option is one of the best, but will be challenging to undergo mainly because if I am accepted or not, based on filling out the application, then the timing that the week I would be travelling to the

Student emails - Animation collaboration for video contest brief

Title sequence design for twin peaks themed episodes.

I am collaborating with a designer to produce three episode title sequenced themes.

Animation: Collaboration for a Video Contest brief - Collaboration for a Video Contest brief - With  a Level 5 Graphic Design student looking to collaborate with an Animation student to produce something to develop for this Video Contest brief:

A typographic contest would be great for me because that offers more variety in specialisation and skills for my portfolio/showreel, as general appeal for studios especially in advertising. This would also prove a possible technical challenge that applies to this assignment also.

Going around University, there are many opportunities to collaborate or partake, submissions and challenges that can constitute as live briefs. Here are some posters that I found on several post boards:

Penguin - Book cover illustration competition

This brief is very interesting for me, and as much as I would like to partake in illustrating a book cover for a genre, the deadline is on the 5th of March giving me only a few days. But I am optimistic about it and after discussing it with a few peers, it could be worth a shot. Given that I could focus my attention this weekend on illustrating ideas and coming up with a good concept, leaving me a two days to refine. Obviously if I don't manage a solid concept by the time the weekend is up it wouldn't be worth my effort to meet the standards, but overall I feel that why not give it a try regardless:

Unfortunately the 'Carmelite Picture Book Prize 2019' competitions deadline is due the day after this assignment submission. On the 5th April:
