PROCESS & PRODUCTION BLOG4
Module Brief - Make 'em Laugh
Sound Production

Audio production - Script

Sound layout
Taking royalty free music and sound effects for my animation and animatic, then ordering them to synchronise with the actions and speech. This was mostly done on Premier Pro and transferred into Photoshop for more accurate synchronisation such as lip syncing the characters and subtle oral sounds with the animated face of each character.

The sound is played over the animation then edited so that it's matching with the expression or action, the sound is faded along with the overall audio clip which is the quiet music that is played throughout. This is played because there is no background sound effects so this music offers a neutral standing point without complete awkward silence and also it is quite funny sounding music, creating a mischievous feeling that I like.

Originally I had planned to use mouth sheets for the warrior but I decided that I could just improvise the mouth features when she talks and match it to the audio, by playing it and tracking which frame communicated certain sounds.

This method proved affective for the warrior but not so much for the dragon because he has such a long mouth, to overcome this I had to limit his speech and only animate him facing the audience directly, not from any other angle because of his large jawline. Dragons can't mouth the words as affectively as humans because of the limited expression to communicate words with their mouths, but from the front he seems to mouth more visually accurate when lip-syncing words.
